Overall a positive experience for young and old, a bit difficult to get to on public transport but great for families and small groups for weekends away with plenty to do.
Personal Experience
Spending many summers at Butlins Skegness growing up I have seen the site change, I remember when the indoor swimming pool first opened and putting arm bands on my legs and having to get rescued by the life guard. Ah good times :) Or rinsing the claw machines of small stuffed animals. As a teenager I played snooker and watched Jim Bowen and as an adult I have been to many a disco night. In my later years I have been known to attend more than one Back to the 80's Big Weekend dressed as Marty McFly :)

How to get to Butlins Skegness

A bit difficult to get to on train as it's tucked away on the East coast but it can be done with a couple of connections. I fond taking the train to Nottingham and then Nottingham to Skegness. The train station in Skegness is about a 12 minute taxi ride away from Butlins

Located in Ingoldmells Butlins Skegness has easy access to the beach and it's within easy walking distance. You access the beach via a gate on site.
Lots of bars, Restaurants, Cafes and take aways locally.
Fantasy Island - A huge park with over 30 rides including roller coasters. Has a large Market and Entertainment.
Skegness Pier with beautiful sea views and lots of Entertainment.
